Saving Realtors Time & Buyers Money

By Christian Chapman

El Paso, Texas – During the height of the recession, in 2008, John Clary thought there had to be a better way to operate a mortgage company. After a couple of years of research and planning, John approached the only individual he would want to explore this venture with, Ramsey Esper. He invited me to play a round of golf at El Paso Country Club. On hole three, having presented my idea in the previous two holes, John asked Esper if he was interested? He nodded. We played on. On hole five, Esper said, “John, this is a big decision for me to take on, I need some time to think about it.” “Of course,” John said, “take all the time you need.”   Upon reaching the twelfth hole, Esper turned to me with a big smile on his face and said, “OK, let’s do it!” By the time we reached the eighteenth hole, he was arranging the LLC with the attorney! My head was spinning. Ramsey Esper moves fast and is very decisive. In my view, these are the traits that make him successful.

What kinds of mortgage products does PM offer?

We do the typical mortgages everyone else does, but our niche is the hard money lending. We are the only company in town that both lends and services the mortgage notes “in house.” This saves realtors time and buyers money.

What makes the lending experience unique with PM?

In the age of the digital mortgage, we have the technology to accommodate those types of clients. But, if at all possible, we prefer to meet our clients, shake their hand, and comprehend exactly what they want accomplished. Mortgage lenders these days tend to use the “cookie cutter approach” to everything. I believe in the art of listening, which is slowly going by the way-side in our society.

PM has a great view of Mount Cristo Rey. How did you come to choose this location?

The view of Mt. Christo Rey is fabulous, inspirational. Mr. Esper located this office and it has been a hit. One big gamble in business is choosing a location, since you really cannot predict for certainty if it will, indeed work out. We got lucky with this location.

What is your inspiration?

I am a competitive person, and was very active in sports growing up. It gets my blood going. I feel business gives me that outlet I crave. I am always striving to improve, and find better ways to serve my clients. If you ever get complicit, and too comfortable in your company, I believe that is a recipe for disaster.

How did you start out?

My dad past away when I was a very young man. My mom did a great job making me independent and not to rely on others. The day after I graduated from New Mexico State University, I took a mortgage job in Denver. I drove there with only my clothes, a micro wave, and my golf clubs. I lived in a 200 square foot apartment, really a closet. I did everything from dumping the trash to eventually funding loans. I think my experience has made me a very good leader and an even better employer. I take great pride in the compensation and work schedules I provide the families that work for PM.

Do you have a family?

I have been married to my beautiful wife for 13 years and have 2 sons, 10 and 7. My oldest son is autistic. This has really grounded me in making myself a better father, husband, and employer. I truly understand what’s really important with our time on earth. I am involved with groups focusing on autism, its cause, its treatment, and hopefully; its cure.

Does John Clary/PM have a business philosophy to sustain you in this business venture?

I believe in surrounding myself with good, honest people that have heart. You need to get out of your comfort zone from time to time, to take chances, and that, in my view, is the only way to accomplish big goals that would otherwise be unattainable. For a Free Consultation, contact us today at
